Hello! I’m Katie Bachand, lover of all things romance.
Here are a few highlights about me:
Growing up, aside from English being the only class I was good at, and writing my life story in journals, I didn’t stumble upon my career as an author until ten years ago.
Long story short: I went through a breakup and read every romance novel I possibly could. Then I found mysteries, thrillers, and fantasies until those ran out. And one day, I walked into Barnes and Noble and realized I had read all of the books. Well, except for one. Writing Romance for Dummies. ’Twas then and there I wrote my first romance novel…and with heartfelt admittance…it really was for dummies.
Yup, you read that right.
Flash-forward ten years, and what has to be millions of words later, here I am today happily married with children in a beautiful suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota. I’m doing what I love as an author, and have a reading hobby that’s a required by-product of my job. I’m basically living the dream.
I’d love to hear all about you and your love of romance, too! What makes you pick up a book and not want to put it down? And who you are as an amazing, fascinating person?

Here are a few fun Q and A’s that share a little more about me.
Q: What’s my favorite holiday?
“Christmas. Hands down. Best. Holiday. Ever.”
A: Christmas. Hands down. Best. Holiday. Ever. And all of its beauty, charm, and tradition is only made better by the Hallmark Channel and their Christmas-movie-perfection. My husband can only handle so much before he heads to our basement to watch something a little more”manly.” But he always asks how the movie ended, and he’ll cut me off right at the end and say, “…and then they fell madly in love.” To which I reply, “Of course!”
Q: What’s my favorite food?
A: My favorite food(s), in no particular order of importance are: Coq Au Vin; Shrimp and Grits, Neapolitan-style Pizza; Tomato, Avocado, and Mozzarella Salad; Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup; Diet Dr. Pepper (no cooking required), French Onion Soup; Orange Gnocchi from Bar La Grassa; Cesar Salad with Homemade Croutons; Homemade Egg Noodles with Tomato Sauce.
Q: What’s my favorite hot drink?
A: Obviously, I have more than one. I know, how could I really choose just one, right? So here they are: Nonfat Pumpkin Spice Latte (I know…I KNOW!); Chai Tea Latte with 1/2 milk 1/2 water and one Splenda; Italian Hot Chocolate (so thick, creamy, and delicious); Nonfat White Mocha; Egg Nog; and Apple Pie (this one is my dad’s fault – and it makes an appearance in Waiting on Christmas!).
Q: What’s my favorite movie?
A: Oh dear. ‘Gun to my head’ (to quote Couple’s Retreat), if I had to pick JUST ONE…You’ve Got Mail. There’s just something about Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
Q: Who’s my favorite author?
“I can’t help it. I love that I know I’m going to get fun characters, usually great friendships, a nice tug-of-war type of romance, sometimes some danger, and at the end of it all…a happy ending.”
A: Asking a writer this question is like asking them to pick a favorite child. But, what I can say is, whenever Nora Roberts comes out with a new book, I buy it. I can’t help it. I love that I know I’m going to get fun characters, usually great friendships, a nice tug-of-war type of romance, sometimes some danger, and at the end of it all…a happy ending.
But there’s also James, J.K., David, Debbie, Jenny, Carly, Mary Kay, John, Janet, and Sue…just to name a few. (Insert obsessed with reading face here).
Q: What’s my favorite thing to bake? (aka dessert)
A: In no particular order: Cookies (sugar, ginger, shortbread); Biscuits/Scones (tie); Peaches with Homemade Whipped Cream; Grandma’s Fudge Cake; Lemon Tart (but my husband doesn’t like lemon desserts…ugh!); Blueberry Pie; Overnight French Toast; Cheesecake; No-bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies; Cake Batter (yup, that’s it, just mixed up cake batter); and Caramel Pecan Clusters (they have never once worked out, and I have never once not eaten the entire batch myself).
Q: What’s the best book I’ve written thus far?
A: Oh Jeepers! Obviously they all have a special place in my heart but if I don’t count a book that isn’t published (the second book I’ve ever written is my favorite unpublished book), I would have to say the Christmas book I just finished. It’s coming out in November of 2020 and I can’t wait! It’s a happy helping of Christmas beauty, charismatic characters, and Hallmark-worthy Christmas romance.
Q: What’s my favorite time of day?
A: 11 AM – it’s when I feel most productive, unfortunately it’s also when I start to want lunch. Also: Dusk; while rocking my baby to sleep; bedtime reading; and any time I can stay up late knowing I don’t have to get up in the morning.
NEVER morning…even though when I force myself to get up to write I will begrudgingly admit the sunrise and peaceful morning coffee are a little nice. But only a little!
Q: If I could describe myself in three (okay, four) people, who would they be?
A: Obviously this is my ideal human – a combination of Martha Stewart, Joanna Gaines, and Nora Roberts…and maybe a little of Mrs. Claus.
